For something different, eco-friendly, off-grid and a real escape head to the wilds and the District Hive Podtel in Gorafe Desert, Granada.

A unique design to be able to be placed in a beautiful location. The one I stayed in near the town of Gorafe is the first location of a Podtel. An amazing spot and an unusual stay. The mostly glass windowed the District Hive Podtel is like posh, comfortable camping. Lie on the outdoor hammock or in bed and star gaze in this starlight reserve.

Inhale the silence, breathe in the fresh air and just relax and disconnect. The Podtel is completely sustainable producing its own water and electricity and has an incinerator toilet so no connections at all. It can be put in place anywhere and when removed no harm has been caused to the environment.

District Hive Podtel, Gorafe

With an area of 45 square metres there´s a bedroom area, a couple of beds can be pulled out in the lounge for children, a kitchen area with seating at the table/work top, a loo and a fabulous well-pressured rain shower. And those views…. Our weekend there was the beginning of February and unfortunately we had cloud cover, but on a clear night, with such peace and lying outside star-gazing really must be the greatest disconnect of all.

Gorafe Desert is in the Geopark of Granada, a stunning wild area also known as the ´Badlands´ as nothing grows, and very little moves there. The Podtel has been designed with the idea of a posh hotel unit, we very much enjoyed our getaway and would love to spend balmy summer evenings with the spectacular nighttime display of stars this Starlight Reserve must have. An unusual, one-off stay. Breakfast is not provided but facilities for making your own are there. There is also a cleaning/bed making service unless, via the App which controls the doors, lighting etc. you cancel the service.
