La Casa Grande de Zujaira

The two-hundred-year-old house of nobility La Casa Grande de Zujaira has recently been taken under wing and brought back to life in an understated and respectful manner. It retains all original its fixtures and some furnishings it has been rescued and restored beautifully.

My visit in January saw bare, colourless grounds but I imagine the riot of colour there would be in spring in summer. (I’m planning to return for photos!) La Casa sits and oversees not only it’s grounds but, being ‘The Big House,’ its Lord of the tiny town too.

There’s one bedroom downstairs and a further four up that strikingly, original staircase.

The house has five cool, white rooms with Egyptian cotton sheets and thick fluffy monogrammed towels with an eclectic shabby chic and antique furniture mix. The colour and focal point in each room comes from the gorgeous paintings by the owner’s father.

The communal sitting room and dining/breakfast room have the original tiled fireplaces and floors with plenty of natural light streaming in from the from of the house.

Out the back through the beguiling ancient, rustic carrigeway doors there’s an enormous patio for private functions. With plans for the gardens and swimming pool well underway this is a beautiful getaway stay.

For more information visit La Casa Grande de Zujaira’s website, it´s the best way to book.
