Almohalla 51 is ultra-charming. Two old town houses renovated into one gorgeous, rustic hotel with original roof beams and oodles of character. This small hotel, with just five rooms, is inviting from its ancient wooden front doors to the pool and patio with sunset views, the ideal spot to enjoy the Almohalla 51 ´Cocktail of the Day.´
Antique furnishings and warm colours dress the rooms with both traditional and contemporary appeal. Comforts such as the wine fridge, honesty bar, coffee machine plus homemade cake on hand make it home from home.
With a backdrop of pine trees over the top of the white-washed patio walls and Moorish roof tiles the blue of the Andalucian sky, on my visit, just shades darker than the pool blue. Beige recliners invite relaxation, bright pink bougainvillea sway in the warm breeze.
August in Almohalla 51 is for relaxing, and being pampered on the lower patio for an evening meal – if you don´t fancy the short walk to the to town bars and restaurants, and having ordered in advance.
Each of the lovely rooms is en-suite room and uniquely furnished. Reclaimed and repurposed local finds, antiques and some with gorgeous old hydraulic and terracotta floor tiles, create an ambiance which makes it easy to wind down and relax.
Owners Jo and Ken look after you like a guest in their own home, which you are. Breakfast al fresco is a work of art, served on Jo´s hand-made ceramics, with lots of home-made choices and local fare.
The charming split level patio areas and bedrooms upstairs mean it isn´t suitable for those with walking difficulties and little ones.
A real delightful getaway just 45 minutes or so from Malaga airport in the agricultural town of Archidona with its unique Baroque plaza, octagonal in shape and the heart of all happenings. A place you´ll want to return to.
