The small, charming San Juan Bautista on the edge of Cazorla town and in Spain´s largest natural park is a delight. It´s an upmarket B&B as no dinner is served but this is also the family home. If you like dogs, especially Basset Hounds, this is a fabulous stay in an old farmhouse surrounded by olive trees.

The Spanish couple, who speak very little English, love English-style decor and the English dogs are very friendly and welcoming. They breed Basset Hounds on the premises, Daddy Basset is called ‘Winston’ and is the only one allowed inside, when visitors are there anyway, except when we were there they had several puppies and we were allowed cuddles!

The hostess has a passion for decorating shabby-chic style and the three bedrooms are absolutely lovely, as is all the house. You can relax in their living room, drink in the fresh air and views on the terrace and enjoy being miles away from noise and stress.

Our room hadn’t an en-suite at the time we stayed (but was two steps away) although there were plans to make the tower, accessible by some stone stairs within the room, into a huge wet room. With windows on three sides it will be gorgeous. I think I may have to return to see it finished!

This Guest House is an ideal stay to visit Parque Natural de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas without being right in the centre of the natural park with its narrow, sinuous mountain roads.
