The ancient Posada de San José began life in 1621, built as a palace, it became home for the cathedral´s choir boys then in 1953 it became a hotel and has remained so ever since.

Original features, plenty of steps and a labyrinth of corridors means the Posada de San José is not for everyone. If you don´t like heights then it is most definitely not for you – our bedroom overlooked the dramatic Huécar gorge. As does the hotel´s terrace and viewpoint.

This is the type of hotel I love, ancient, charming nooks and crannies, loads of character and showing its age – but age isn´t always a good thing – our bedroom was a bit basic and dated – though clean and it did the job as we wanted to be in the old city and have those magnificent views. I would stay again.

Cuenca is an incredible almagamation of raw nature and stunning architecture which combined for a very enjoyable visit.
